Namsu Shan Izakaya Celebrates Its “Better Late Than Never” Launch with Karaoke, Shan Yakitori, and Exciting Announcements Ahead.
Namsu Shan Izakaya finally came alive on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, with its long-awaited “Better Late Than Never” launch party — an intimate and joyfully spirited evening that drew Bangkok’s culinary and media community into the glow of Chinatown’s Baan Trok Tua Ngork.
Guests were welcomed by the restaurant’s moody yet warm décor, a blend of modern Japanese bar culture and rustic Shan touches, creating a cosy, soulful setting that set the tone for the night. As sake flowed, so did conversation, laughter, and eventually, “slow jams” karaoke that carried on late into the night. The launch event was as much a celebration of Namsu’s delayed debut as it was a promise of the creative, cultural, and culinary energy to come.
Behind Namsu is Htet Myet Oo, co-founder of the Rangoon Tea House Group, and co-founder partner Isabella Sway Tin, whose shared vision has helped shape some of Myanmar’s most acclaimed culinary destinations, with Thailand’s first Rangoon Tea House located in Thonglor, Bangkok. At Namsu, the couple is joined by Chef Honey Rae Zenang, the group’s Culinary Director and Chef Partner, who brings her unique fusion of Shan heritage and Japanese technique to Bangkok.
Throughout the evening, guests experienced an array of dishes that showcased Chef Honey’s inventive approach, a menu that reimagines the Shan dining experience through the lens of a modern izakaya. Highlights included the house-original Shan “Yakitori”, a playful, chicken-free selection grilled over binchotan, featuring Wagyu Fillet with Makwan and Yuzu, Tiger Prawn with Dry Mala Powder, and Lotus Root Teriyaki, each offering layers of smoke, spice, and texture.
Other favourites included the comforting Salmon Mentaiko Butter Rice, served sizzling hot-stone style with onsen egg at the table, and the much-loved Yuzu Cheesecake, torched with yuzu cream hollandaise for a perfectly sweet, citrusy finish.
In addition to marking Namsu’s official launch, the evening also previewed the , set for late November, a highly anticipated milestone that will introduce the celebrated Myanmar dining group to Bangkok’s riverside landmark.
Guests were also given a glimpse of Namsu’s forward-looking plans. Starting 11 November 2025, Namsu will unveil its new izakaya-inspired menu to the public, alongside a calendar of live entertainment and special collaborations that will run throughout 2025 and into 2026. Expect monthly karaoke nights hosted by industry friends, sake and highball evenings, intimate “tiny desk”-style performances, guest chef pop-ups, and more gastronomic surprises designed to keep Namsu vibrant and evolving with every visit. Namsu is set to become Bangkok’s go-to destination for soulful food, spontaneous fun, and a celebration of community that’s as much about culture and creativity as it is about cuisine.
