Galleries Nights 2021 by French Embassy Returns on 26-27 November 2021

The Embassy of France in Thailand organized the press conference to official launch the 8th of galleries’ nights 2021 : “Art is the Solution” at the Residence of France. On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to Thailand gave an opening speech with the presences of sponsors, partners, medias as well as galleries to attend this event. This year, Galleries’ Nights will be held in 2 cities: Bangkok on 26-27 November and Bangsaen on 3-4 December!

During 4 nights with more than 70+ galleries, 30+ itineraries and Free access! Art lovers will discover many forms of art suc as Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Performance art, Virtual music performance, etc.

In Bangkok, galleries are accessible through our dedicated free tuk-tuks or by BTS Skytrain, taxi, or even walking from one gallery to another. In bangsaen, there are Burapha University’s mini shuttle bus to hop on-off free!

In November and December 2021, Galleries’ Nights will once again break through the night, for four days dedicated to contemporary and visual art. Our objective is to bring the people back to the galleries, under the theme: “Art Is The Solution”.

สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฝรั่งเศสประจำประเทศไทย ได้จัดงานแถลงข่าวเปิดตัวงาน galleries’ nights 2021 : “Art is the Solution” ครั้งที่ 8 อย่างเป็นทางการ ณ ทำเนียบเอกอครราชทูตฝรั่งเศส ในโอกาสนี้ นาย Thierry Mathou เอกอัครราชทูตฝรั่งเศสประจำประเทศไทย ได้ให้เกียรติกล่าวเปิดงาน โดยมีสื่อมวลชนหลายสำนัก ศิลปิน แกลเลอรี่ตลอดจนตัวแทนผู้สนับสนุนกิจกรรมมาร่วมงาน ซึ่งงานจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 26-27 พฤศจิกายน 2564 และครั้งนี้แกลเลอรี่ ไนท์ ไม่ได้จัดแค่เฉพาะในกรุงเทพ ! แต่จะมีแกลเลอรี่ ไนท์ บางแสน ในวันที่ 3-4 ธันวาคม 2564 ด้วย!

โดยงานแกลเลอรี่ ไนท์ ครั้งนี้จะแบ่งออกเป็น 4 วัน รวบรวมแกลเลอรี่มากกว่า 70+ แห่ง 30+ เส้นทาง และเข้าชมฟรี ! ขอเชิญชวนผู้ที่หลงใหลในงานศิลปะ นักสะสมและผู้ที่ชื่นชอบมาร่วมค้นหาและเสพงานศิลปะที่หลากหลาย เช่น Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Performance art, Virtual music performance และอื่นๆ

After his 11-month artist residency in Cité des Arts in Paris, Nakrob Moonmanas presents his latest works that show a new approach in making collage. From his interest in the complicated relationship between the Siamese Modernity and the Colonial West marks, the artist invites the viewers to review the ideology, operation and result of the early photography in Siam. When it first came to this land, the ancient photographic process was seen as a state between Chemistry and Alchemy. Moonmanas merges together the fragment of historical memory with the contemporary approach to reexamine the past.

This exhibition is an exploration of the relationship between beauty and time. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes; it is an inherently subjective concept, influenced by personal values and preferences. As a society, our ideals and perspectives are in constant flux. The construct of ‘time’ comes from a human need to document and understand change. In order to understand how we determine and perceive beauty, we must also understand the complexity of our perception of time.

นิทรรศการนี้สำรวจความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความงามกับกาลเวลา “ความงาม” นั้นเป็นสิ่งที่จับต้องไม่ได้ ขึ้นอยู่กับจิตใจมนุษย์แต่ละคนเป็นผู้ให้คุณค่าแก่ความงามที่แตกต่างกันไป อีกปัจจัยที่เป็นตัวกำหนดมุมมองของเราคือ “กาลเวลา” กาลเวลาเป็นสิ่งที่มีต้นกำเนิดมาจากความเปลี่ยนแปลง ถ้าไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลง ก็ไม่มีกาลเวลา ความรู้สึกนึกคิด มุมมองของมนุษย์เราจึงพัฒนาเปลี่ยนแปลงไปพร้อมกันกับเวลาอย่างไม่สามารถแยกออกจากกันได้ เวลาจึงมีส่วนสำคัญอย่างมากต่อทัศนคติเช่นกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าผู้มองเอาอะไรมาเป็นตัวแปรในการตัดสินสิ่งที่เห็น ค่านิยมของความงามที่สมบูรณ์แบบในอุดมคติได้เปลี่ยนไปตามกาลเวลาและยุคสมัย มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอยู่ตลอด เป็นพลวัตตามกระแสสังคม วิถีการดำรงชีวิตหรือวัฒนธรรมของมนุษย์ แต่ก็ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่าความสวยความงามเป็นสิ่งที่สังคมยังคงให้ค่าและให้ความสำคัญ

With my profession as a ceramist and the nature of working with clay, soils and minerals throughout the years, it has been possible for me to be able to see and appreciate the many shades of colors nature created.

And with my love for drawing since I was a young child, I wanted to experiment with clay and all the colors that exist in minerals.

There is no other meaning and if there was to be a meaning, I just want those mineral soils to reveal its true beauty, feelings from nature should be enough.

โดยอาชีพของผมแล้ว เป็นช่างปั้นเครื่องปั้นดินเผา และด้วยการทำงาน การได้สัมผัสกับดิน สินแร่ มาอย่างยาวนาน ทำให้ได้เห็นสีของดินสีต่าง ๆ แร่ธาตุ ตามธรรมชาติ อย่างหลากหลาย

และด้วยความรักในการเขียนรูป มาตั้งแต่เด็ก ๆ ก็เลยอยากจะเอาดินมาเขียนเป็นรูปบ้าง ให้ได้เห็นสีสันอันหลากหลายของดิน สีต่าง ๆ ตามธรรมชาติ

ไม่มีความหมายอื่นใด และ ถ้าจะมี ความหมายก็เพียงแต่ อยากจะให้ดินสินแร่ เหล่านั้น ได้เปิดเผยความสวยงาม ความรู้สึกตามธรรมชาติ ก็น่าจะเพียงพอแล้ว

Vipoo will select 12 most inspiring Superhero designs submitted by the general public and invite 12 contemporary Thai artists to bring them to life as small sculptures. 12 writers from an online community will be commissioned to write a 150 words story about each of the superheroes. COVID Superheroes project will be a record of people’s emotions during this unprecedented situation.

I Am a Good Online Shopper, So I Try To Be a Good Painter 2 is a solo art exhibition of Supapong Laodheerasiri that presents paintings and installation art. In the exhibition, corrugated fibreboards from used postal boxes and used packages that came from online shopping were used to be main materials for creating paintings, which could refer to the rapid growth of E-commerce during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, basic stationery items also were used to be part of artworks, particularly cloth tapes, which have been used for marking points to keep social distancing or physical distancing in many places since the outbreak of COVID-19. Therefore, the exhibition could reflect the use of used materials, cheap materials or ordinary materials to create artworks, which is the economical artistic creation in the current economic crisis caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 and also could reflect the state of the economy and social situations in the present. Furthermore, the exhibition also could pose questions about the value between used materials, cheap materials or ordinary materials and artworks.

Paw-Dee lifestyle have been working with C.A.P. Studio, a studio that has been working on printmaking from Chiangmai for many years. In the past, C.A.P. Studio has sent the works of these 4 artists to the shop regularly. In addition to the feedback on the sales of the work, the 4 artists are constantly improving their styles, stories and working techniques. It makes us feel excited to see new works every time. Therefore, when he became a curator, we did not miss the opportunity to present the works of the 4 artists.

Because this year’s event is the Olympic year, so we think of a team sport that has to compete by using 4 athletes. If there is no one, it will not be able to reach the destination because 4 people are 100% successful.

พอดีได้ร่วมทำงานกับ C.A.P. Studio ซึ่งเป็นสตูดิโอที่ทำงานภาพพิมพ์จากเชียงใหม่มาตลอดหลายปี ซึ่งระยะเวลาที่ผ่านมาทาง C.A.P. Studio ได้ส่งงานของศิลปินทั้ง 4 ท่านนี้มาให้ทางร้านมาอย่างสม่ำเสมอ นอกจากผลตอบรับเรื่องการขายงาน ศิลปินทั้ง 4 ยังมีการพัฒนารูปแบบของผลงาน เรื่องราว และเทคนิคในการทำงานสม่ำเสมอ ทำให้พอดีรู้สึกตื่นเต้นที่ได้เห็นผลงานใหม่ในทุกครั้ง ดังนั้นเมื่อพอดีได้ผันตัวมาเป็น Curator พอดีจึงไม่พลาดโอกาสที่จะเสนอผลงานของศิลปินทั้ง 4 ท่าน

เนื่องด้วยปีที่จัดงานปีนี้เป็นปีโอลิมปิค จึงคิดถึงกีฬาประเภททีมที่ต้องรวมแข่งขันโดยใช้นักกีฬา 4 คน จะขาดคนใดคนนึงไปไม่ได้ หากขาดใครไปก็จะไม่สามารถสำเร็จถึงปลายทาง เพราะ 4 คนจึงสำเร็จ 100%

At the heart of the gallery, is a one-of-a-kind permanent installation, a full size gold leaf and graffitied New York Subway Car that symbolises a cohesion of cultures, acknowledging the golden age of graffiti art and drawing inspiration from traditional Thai fine art techniques. The intention for this is to be an ever-changing canvas by inviting artists to re-paint it from time to time.

สัญลักษณ์ที่สื่อถึงความเป็น Aurum Gallery คือรถไฟใต้ดินจากนิวยอร์กสีทอง (New Yorl City Subway) ซึ่งแสดงถึงจุดกำเนิดของวัฒนธรรมกราฟฟิตี้ที่เกิดขึ้นที่เมืองนิวยอร์ก ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา รวมเข้ากับสีทองที่เป็นตัวแทนของเอกลักษณ์ศิลปะไทย ตัวรถไฟนี้นอกจากจะเป็นหัวใจของแกลเลอรีแล้ว ยังเป็นผืนผ้าใบขนาดใหญ่ที่จะถูกเติมแต่งและวาดลวดลายขึ้นใหม่ในทุก ๆ ปีโดยศิลปินทั้งไทยและนานาชาติ

Founded by Akapol Op Sudasna and Supamas Phahulo in 2015, situated in the heart of Bangkok city, BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY has fused conversations, communities, and pluralities of contemporary culture into a hybrid of commercial gallery and project space.

In 2016, in partnership with Studio 150, BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY co-founded Bangkok Art Book Fair.

In 2018, the gallery founded OPEN FIELD, a non-profit organization, to support knowledge production and contemporary culture. Ghost:2561 is the first initiative supported by OPEN FIELD.

My love for black and white photos has been around since childhood. I was born and raised in a large old wooden house, a wooden house with no color. The photos decorating (hanging) in the house, especially the photos of family members passing away, were black and white. At home, there are many black and white photographs of my childhood. It was taken by a professional photographer that my father had taken at home for various occasions such as birthday parties, Children’s Day parties, New Year’s events, etc. When studying abroad, even having fun with color photography but still fascinated by the black and white images that were familiar from childhood. I remember that I had the opportunity to visit photo exhibitions of many world-renowned photographers, old like Henri Cartier-Bresson / Robert Doisneau / Man Ray or newer like Annie Leibovitz / Mario Testino. For me, Black and white photographs are pictures that remind me of childhood. Think of the time that everyone is still together, thinking of happy times. Black and white images are therefore images that bring back memories of the past to the present. It is a timeless and timeless image.

ความชอบภาพดําขาวมีมาตั้งแต่เด็ก ข้าพเจ้าเกิดและโตขึ้นมาในบ้านไม้เก่า ๆ ขนาดใหญ่ เป็นบ้านไม้ที่ไม่มีสีสัน รูปภาพต่าง ๆ ที่ติดอยู่ ในบ้านโดยเฉพาะรูปภาพของคนในครอบครัวที่จากไปก็เป็นภาพดําขาว ที่บ้านมีภาพถ่ายดําขาวของข้าพเจ้าในวัยเด็กเป็นจํานวนมาก ที่ถ่ายโดยช่างภาพมืออาชีพที่บิดาของข้าพเจ้าให้มาถ่ายภาพที่บ้าน ในโอกาสต่าง ๆ เช่น งานวันเกิด งานวันเด็กงานปีใหม่ เป็นต้น เมื่อไปศึกษาต่อที่ต่างประเทศ แม้จะสนุกกับการถ่ายภาพสี แต่ก็ยังหลงใหลในภาพดําขาวที่คุ้นเคยมาแต่เด็ก จําได้ว่ามีโอกาสได้ไปชมงานแสดงภาพถ่ายของช่างภาพชื่อดังระดับโลกหลายคน ทั้งรุ่นเก่า เช่น Henri Cartier-Bresson / Robert Doisneau / Man Ray หรือรุ่นใหม่อย่าง Annie Leibovitz / Mario Testino เป็นต้น สําหรับข้าพเจ้านั้น ภาพดําขาวเป็นภาพที่ทําให้นึกถึงวัยเด็ก นึกถึงช่วงเวลาที่ยังอยู่กันครบถ้วนทุกคน นึกถึงช่วงเวลาที่มีความสุข ภาพดําขาวจึงเป็นภาพที่นําความทรงจําในอดีตกลับมาสู่ปัจจุบัน เป็นภาพที่ไม่มีเวลาและไม่มีวันตาย

THRESHOLD ON (2021) brings together eight artists (a fluctuating number) to inhabit Bridge Art Space as the gallery holds on for one last exhibition. On the brink of new beginnings and unavoidable endings, both Bridge and the works presented throughout the building create and examine the intersection of digital, spiritual, imagined, dreamt, and physical reality of now. The four-floor shophouse is animated for the final show, allowing its unique location, architecture, and seven years as residents of Charoenkrung and the independent art scene of Bangkok to be celebrated, reflected upon, and launched toward whatever may come.

Great disruption has caused massive shifts and related pain throughout the past two years. Under “Art is the Solution”, Pain 21 invites selected artists, performers and sex workers to share their inner pain through art and expression with the audience thus providing relief, communication and eventually degrees of understanding, formulating solutions and healing concepts.

Diversity is the guiding principle in the selection of artists and performers as well as the actual selection of works and exhibits.

A wide range of media, from large watercolor painting by Tawan Wattuya of a BDSM scenery, poetic drawings by Myrtille Tabayrenc over to very direct and young works of Abhedey and Headache Stencil.

Starkskink is performing shibari art and Mistress May will conduct a live caning of submissive.

Poetry of dead serves as a memory note of the time of frustration and anger on 2021, the day that our government announced how they will handle the pandemic with humor and smiles. No one had lost their life on that day yet but it was the day I started to see the fall of the public healthcare system as well as the selfishness of the ruling class. The piece got deleted within minutes of being published publicly because it “triggered and affected” people and “we should promote positive images during these times”.

ชิ้นงานในนิทรรศการนี้เป็นบทบันทึกห้วงเวลาของความคับแค้นใจในปีนี้ 2021 วันที่รัฐบาลแถลงเรื่องการรับมือโควิดหยอกล้อกับนักข่าว ปนกับเสียงหัวเราะ วันที่ยังไม่มีใครเสียชีวิต วันที่เราเริ่มเห็นการล้มสลายของระบบสาธารณสุข ความเห็นแก่ตัวของชนชั้นนำ ภาพวาดถูกเผยแพร่ไปไม่นานก็ถูกลบทิ้งไป ด้วยเหตุผลว่า “สร้างความสะเทือนใจแก่ผู้ที่ได้พบเห็น ในสภาวะแบบนี้เราควรหยิบยื่นแต่สิ่งดี ๆ”

We are all alone.. how ghosts found us” ภายใต้พื้นที่ของ Cartel Art Space ให้เป็นพื้นที่ทำงานเสมือนสตูดิโอส่วนตัวในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ตลอดช่วงเวลานิทรรศการตั้งแต่วันที่ 15 พฤศจิกายน จนถึงวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม ผลงานที่จะเกิดขึ้นในช่วงที่ศิลปินทำงานนี้มีชื่อว่า “Star Locket” อยู่บนผืนผ้าใบขนาด 3 x 2 m นี้ศิลปินหยิบยืมมาจากขนาดของห้องคุมขังภายในเรือนจำ ที่คุมขังนักเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองเอาไว้ จำนวนวันที่ผ่านไปของศิลปินภายในพื้นที่ห้องจัดแสดง นับเป็นจำนวนวันที่พรากอิสระภาพของของเพื่อนร่วมอุดมการณ์ประชาธิปไตยของเธอออกไปด้วยเช่นกัน

The ’1973′ series is born of nostalgia, obsession, dream and memory. Tawan Wattuya begins with a search for ‘images’ that go back in the fading memory and are disjointed. Super hero cartoon images from black and white TV, the album cover of the record where the melody can be heard floating in the air, movie posters, news photos of important events from the past and artifacts representing an era. It’s like a time machine that takes him back almost half a century.

‘Image’ is changed to ‘Representation’, a timeless dreamlike memory. Forming the artist’s identity with the technique of drawing collages by selecting the original image from different sources to create a juxtaposition resulting in a ‘representative image’ that is linked to his identity and memory which eventually becomes a clear picture.

It was the first time that Tawan chose a creative painting with a combination of techniques. Realistic acrylic painting coexists with fuzzy freeform drawing, the placement of bright color with black and white images, the intention to leave the space and overlap until solid. An image that paints traces of time, the fold of the original poster, scratches on the record cover paper. All of them create an experience of seeing Tawan’s paintings in a new way that connects together parts of the past, the dimensions of time, the experience of the audience and the artist’s identity.

1973
It was the year that the US military withdrew from Vietnam, the Pioneer 11 spacecraft went into space, Thailand’s day of great tragedy, students in Athens rebelled against dictatorship, Picasso, the world’s greatest artist died, and it was the year Tawan Wattuya was born.

All the events that happened in 1973 were no different from the events of other years that have occurred throughout the history of mankind. We continue to revolve around dreams and lies to end war and make real peace. We still have to call for democracy to give meaning to the word ‘people’. Humans still live with hope, to seek passion for innovation, and to make the world a better place. Humans still have to live with changes that happen all the time. Tawan’s personal history is linked to cultural history. It allows us to see the thoughts, imaginations, experiences and knowledge we all share in our moments of coexistence.

ผลงานชุด ‘1973’ เกิดขึ้นจากการโหยหาอดีต (Nostalgia) ความหลงใหล (Obsession) ความฝันและความทรงจำผสมผสานกัน

ตะวัน วัตุยา เริ่มต้นด้วยการสืบค้น ‘ภาพ’ ที่ย้อนกลับไปในความทรงจำที่เลือนลาง และไม่ปะติปะต่อ ภาพ การ์ตูนซุปเปอร์ฮีโร่จากทีวีขาวดำ ปกแผ่นเสียงที่ได้ยินทำนองเพลงลอยอยู่ในอากาศ โปสเตอร์จาก ภาพยนตร์ ภาพข่าวเหตุการณ์สำคัญในอดีต สิ่งประดิษฐ์ที่เป็นตัวแทนของยุคสมัย เป็นเหมือนเครื่องไทม์ แมชชีนพาย้อนเวลากลับไปเกือบครึ่งศตวรรษ

‘ภาพ’ (Image) ถูกเปลี่ยนเป็น ‘ภาพแทน’ (Representation) ความจำเหมือนความฝันที่ไร้เวลา ก่อร่างตัวตน ของศิลปินขึ้นมา ด้วยเทคนิคการวาดแบบปะติด (Collage) โดยเลือกภาพต้นแบบจาก ต่างแหล่งที่มา เพื่อ เทียบเคียง (Juxtaposition)ทำให้เกิดเป็น ‘ภาพแทน’ ที่เชื่อมโยงกับตัวตนและความทรงจำของตะวัน จน เกิดเป็นภาพที่ชัดเจน

นับเป็นครั้งแรกที่ตะวัน เลือกสร้างสรรค์งานจิตรกรรม ด้วยการผสมผสานเทคนิค การวาดสีอะครีลิกแบบ เหมือนจริง อยู่ร่วมกับ การวาดแบบรูปทรงอิสระที่พร่าเลือน การจัดวางภาพสีสดใส และภาพขาวดำ ความ จงใจที่จะปล่อยพื้นที่ว่าง และการซ้อนทับจนแน่นทึบ ภาพที่วาดร่องรอยของกาลเวลา รอยพับของโปสเตอร์ ต้นฉบับ รอยถลอกลอกของกระดาษปกแผ่นเสียง ล้วนแต่สร้างให้เกิดประสบการณ์ของการดูงานจิตรกรรม ของตะวัน วัตุยาในแบบใหม่ ที่เชื่อมโยงบางส่วนของอดีต มิติของเวลา ประสบการณ์ของผู้ชม และตัวตน ของศิลปินเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน

เป็นปีที่มี 14 ตุลาฯ วันมหาวิปโยค ประชาชนรวมตัวประท้วงเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตย, นักศึกษาในกรุง เอเธนส์ ก่อการจลาจลต่อต้านเผด็จการ เป็นปีที่ ปิกัสโซ่ ศิลปินใหญ่ของโลกเสียชีวิต และเป็นปีเกิดของ ศิลปิน ตะวัน วัตุยา

เหตุการณ์ต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นในปี 1973 ไม่ได้แตกต่างไปจากเหตุการณ์ในปีอื่น ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นตามเหตุปัจจัย ตลอด ประวัติศาสตร์ของมนุษยชาติ เรายังคงวนเวียนอยู่กับความฝันและคำลวงที่จะยุติสงครามและสร้างสันติภาพ ที่แท้จริง เรายังคงต้องเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตยให้ความหมายกับคำว่า ‘ประชาชน’ มนุษย์ยังอยู่กับความหวัง ที่จะแสวงหา ความลุ่มหลงในการคิดค้นสิ่งใหม่ ๆ และทำให้โลกนี้ดีขึ้น มนุษย์ยังต้องอยู่กับความ เปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นตลอดเวลา ประวัติศาสตร์ส่วนบุคคลของตะวัน ที่เชื่อมโยงกับประวัติศาสตร์วัฒนธรรม ทำให้เราเห็นความคิด จินตนาการ ประสบการณ์ และความรู้ ที่เราต่างแบ่งปันช่วงเวลาของการมีชีวิตอยู่ร่วม กัน

A ritual performance that roots from our Thai culture belief. The ritual uses Thai classical dance (Rum-Thai) as a bargain with the superstitious or holy spirit for prosperous, health and power, which influenced over us and drive our Thai society.

When dance become a human’s bargaining power toward the holy spirit. We question the holy being can only exist by our belief to worship them through ritual offerings.

Absorbed in waves of turmoil and frustration for over a decade – from recent pandemic upheaval to ongoing political struggles – we note that an ignition point has arrived in the long but low-burning chain of events. Our past projects and shows reflected on these significant phenomena occurring on both the national and global stages. In a state where history and information are tightly controlled by those in power, artists work as archivists and protectors of histories, riddlers of truths and lies.

Wrapping up the year 2021, Gallery VER is pleased to present ‘From Simmer to Ignition’, a collective show featuring artworks by 8 distinctively different artists. The selected works embody a wide range of media and subjects. Among the highlights are artworks by Rirkrit Tiravanija and Pattara Chanruechachai, who utilise the same medium – newspaper presenting day-to-day yet significant events – to reveal political meanings hidden between the lines. Meanwhile Nutdanai Jitbunjong’s new works offer up souvenirs of past glory from the archives, rendered unfitting to contemporary eyes. Elsewhere, Thasnai Sethaseree’s vivid paintings lure viewers with their celebratory façades before revealing the dark truth beneath, while Nuttapon Sawasdee’s moving images show his perseverance in presenting a long-forgotten symbol.

Although displaying different points in Thailand’s timeline, all the artworks lead to our current point of historical collision. Created at various times over the past 10 years, the selected works summon up collective memories as well as forgotten tales to chart a decade of turmoil. Paintings, installations, objects and moving images create a collage with a thread to lead viewers through the labyrinth of confusion. Sifting through this history hidden under silent ashes, the artworks and their voices might just keep us from suffocating in this age of anxiety.

แม้จะนำเสนอหมุดหมายต่างกันตามกาลเวลา ผลงานทุกชิ้นล้วนนำมาสู่การประทุและปะทะในปัจจุบัน ผลงานที่ได้รับเลือกมานั้นถูกสร้างขึ้นในช่วงสิบปีที่ผ่านมา ต่างเพรียกหาทั้งความทรงจำร่วมและเรื่องเล่าจากสถานที่อันห่างไกล จิตรกรรม, ศิลปะจัดวาง, วัตถุ, และภาพเคลื่อนไหวเหล่านี้ได้ปะติดปะต่อเหตุการณ์ทั้งหลายเข้าด้วยกัน เรียงร้อยผ่านวงกฏแห่งความสับสน หากเมื่อร่อนกรองเถ้าถ่านเงียบงันที่ปดปิดประวัติศาสตร์แล้ว ผลงานศิลปะและเสียงของมัน คงช่วยเราจากการจมดิ่งลงภายใต้ยุคสมัยแห่งความวิตกนี้

George Floyd’s ghastly death on 25 May 2020 at the hand of white police officers in Minneapolis ignited another round of protests against racism and police brutality under the banner ‘Black Lives Matter’, which spread to over sixty countries across the globe.

British artist Justin Mills lives in Bangkok, far from the street where Derek Chauvin’s knees suffocated George Floyd, but as a fellow human being and a white man with a conscience and longing for justice and equality, he felt he could no longer stand silently by.

‘You don’t have to be black to be outraged’ is a series of photo montages from four American anti-racist movies: ‘Do the Right Thing’ (dir. Spike Lee, 1989); ‘Selma’ (dir. Ava DuVernay, 2014); ‘Moonlight’ (dir. Barry Jenkins, 2016); ‘I Am Not Your Negro’ (dir. Raoul Peck, 2016), capturing key moments along with their English subtitles and turning them black and white.

“SPRING CULTURE” highlights the vibrant scenes of local Thai traditions that celebrate major events in one’s life. The get-together of the family, friends, neighbors, and the community to witness the event and to support its group members is common in every culture in the world.

Being raised and growing up in the Northeastern region of Thailand, Nilraya experienced the beauty of the festivity and the bond it creates. She also travels to different parts of the country to observe divergent celebrations in accordance with the local people’s tradition and culture. These traditions and rituals are part of our heritage and they will be passed on to the next generations.

Nilraya depicts a snapshot of these convivial moments using the unconventional medium of embroidery instead of painting or photography. With her talents in needle work, Nilraya uses various sizes of thread with a vibrant colour palette to record what she sees onto a piece of fabric.

“Once a word leaves your mouth, you cannot chase it back even with the swiftest horse.“ The sound that was once uttered could not be. retrieved. It can have either positive or negative impact on the listener. Especially, if the words are said by an authority. The role of speech became even more important. Good words can create inspiration. Bad words can lead to hatred that is the root of the conflict in society. These portraits of important figures are overlaid with each one’s notable words. Like a painting with sound, but it’s the voice of the audience who will interpret and carry on a new conversation.

“คำพูดเป็นนายคน” คือสุภาษิตทื่สื่อถึงความสำคัญของคำพูด เสียงที่เปล่งออกมาครั้งหนึ่งแล้วไม่สามารถเรียกกลับคืนมาได้ สามารถสร้างผลกระทบต่อผู้ฟังได้ทั้งในแง่ดีและแง่ร้าย โดยเฉพาะหากมันถูกกล่าวโดยผู้มีอำนาจ บทบาทของคำพูดนั้นก็ยิ่งมีความสำคัญมากขึ้นไปอีก คำพูดที่ดีอาจสร้างแรงบันดาลใจให้คนจำนวนมาก ส่วนคำพูดที่เลวร้ายก็อาจนำมาซึ่งความเกลียดชังที่เป็นต้นตอของความขัดแย้งในสังคม ภาพวาดบุคคลสำคัญที่ถูกซ้อนทับด้วยคำพูดของแต่ละคน เปรียบเสมือนจิตรกรรมที่มีเสียง ทว่าเป็นน้ำเสียงของผู้ชมที่จะเข้ามาร่วมตีความเพื่อสร้างบทสนทนาใหม่ๆ ต่อวาทะอันโด่งดังเหล่านั้น

2. Exhibition Monster Ink by Alongkorn Lauwatthana (อลงกรณ์ หล่อวัฒนา)

From the drawings of Thai cartoonists in the past to the monsters with various amazing appearances. Alongkorn Lauwatthana combined his skills in Thai traditional painting with an interest in contemporary art to created this exciting collection of monster painting to express his identity, which is closely tied to the work of art, along with reflecting the conceptual aspect of today’s controversial issues, for example, the genetic engineering of living things that become more widespread this day. So, the question is “Is it possible that advanced technology will be able to make these imaginary creatures come to life?”

จากผลงานของนักเขียนการ์ตูนไทยสมัยก่อน สู่จินตนาการถึงสัตว์ประหลาดอันน่าตื่นตา อลงกรณ์ หล่อวัฒนา อาศัยทักษะในทางจิตรกรรมแบบไทยประเพณี ผสานเข้ากับความสนใจในงานศิลปะร่วมสมัย สร้างสรรค์ผลงานชุดนี้ขึ้นเพื่อสื่อสารตัวตนของศิลปินที่ผูกพันกับการทำงานศิลปะอย่างแนบแน่น พร้อมกับสะท้อนแง่มุมทางความคิดเกี่ยวกับประเด็นถกเถียงในโลกปัจจุบัน อย่างการตัดต่อพันธุกรรมของสิ่งมีชีวิตที่เริ่มแพร่หลายมากขึ้น เป็นไปได้หรือไม่ที่เทคโนโลยีอันก้าวหน้า จะทำให้จินตนาการถึงสัตว์ในอุดมคติมีชีวิตขึ้นมาได้

This was inspired by her loved one that narrating a beautiful harmonious story and a relation through things around us and all creative creatures.

Todd James’ debut Bangkok exhibition CLEAN JELLYBEAN features paintings that elaborate on the artist’s themes of surreal interiors, geopolitics, and candid portraits of women, all rendered in vibrant, saturated palettes with abstract forms.

Todd James began his art career in the New York City subway system of the early 1980s, and through his adolescent graffiti work mastered the practical challenges of good design at an early age. James is a co-creator of Street Market, a major work of the post-graffiti movement that was selected for the 2001 Venice Biennale. In 2011, a re-creation of this work was the central installation of LA MOCA’s record breaking exhibition, Art in the Streets. His paintings and installations have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. In the commercial art world James has collaborated with artists including Iggy Pop, The Beastie Boys, U2, Eminem, and Pharrell Williams. He lives in New York City.

นิทรรศการเปิดตัวครั้งแรกในกรุงเทพฯ ของท็อดด์ เจมส์ CLEAN JELLYBEAN นำเสนอภาพวาดที่เน้นย้ำถึงธีมของศิลปินในด้านการตกแต่งภายในที่เหนือจริง ภูมิรัฐศาสตร์และภาพถ่ายบุคคลที่ตรงไปตรงมาของผู้หญิง มันถูกนำเสนอในจานสีสดใสอิ่มตัวด้วยลวดลายนามธรรม

“Palam Palam MUSEUM” at Asiatique The Riverfront has received an opportunity from Asset World Corporation (AWC). This is an extended version of its original space ‘Slure Project’.

It opened on October 15th, 2020, at the same time that Asiatique reopened after the end of the first lockdown. With museum as the suffix, the branch’s operation resonates with Asiatique’s historical background, serving as the manufacturing base, producing products that are sent out to the other branches and pop-up stores. This is also the place where the brand’s story is told with the targeted clientele that includes families with small children and teenagers. Since the cafe is pet-friendly, it’s designed to have an upbeat vibe with an outdoor space that can host events and activities.

“The windows of the soul” was a definition of human senses given by the ancient Greek philosophers, Aristotle. Since the covid-19 pandemic, these senses has been locked as well as the lock down situation around the globe. UNFOLD, the art exhibition of a 49-year-old Thai artist “Palut Marod” is going to unfold the folded visitors’ senses that were shut during the pandemic through Palut’s first abstract pieces. “UNFOLD” art exhibition starts 1 – 28 November 2021.

1. Exhibition Portrait Prize 2021 by 178 artists

Entries for the inaugural Portrait Prize have come from across Thailand, 26 provinces in all, from artists professional, amateur, and student, male and female, Thai and foreigner, young and old. To enter the competition, each artist had to have at least one live sitting, and submit with their painting the story of their sitter. An esteemed jury of seven members of the business community have chosen the winner of the Portrait Prize 2021 (THB500,000). RCB’s Exhibitions Team has chosen the winner of this year’s Packing Room Prize 2021 (THB200,000). You will see the paintings of both winners immediately inside the gallery. When you visit the exhibition, please take some time to read the story of the artist’s sitter. Telling the story provides an insight into society during what has been an extremely challenging 12 months. The stories in this exhibition show the strength of character of the nation, providing inspiration to us all. As a visitor to the exhibition, you have an important part to play. Every person visiting the exhibition is being asked to select one painting as their favourite. The painting with the most votes will be awarded the People’s Choice Prize 2021 (THB100,000) at the close of the exhibition on December 7, 2021. Please bring your smartphone to scan the QR Code for voting..If you don’t have a smartphone, a member of the RCB Exhibition team at the office on this floor will be able to take your vote manually.

Introspection is the first series of works from the Souleport Project, an ongoing psychological artistic exploration, by Gongkan – Kantapon Metheekul. Further developing and expanding on his teleportation concept, this exhibition represents an inner portal, a self-exploration into the artist’s mind and memory. It is a pursuit of full comprehension and contentment, representing an attempt to strengthen a spiritual foundation and step into new possibilities.

นิทรรศการ Introspection ถือเป็นการจัดแสดงผลงานชุดแรกของ ก้องกาน (กันตภณ เมธีกุล) ภายใต้โปรเจกต์ Souleport ซึ่งเป็นโปรเจกต์งานศิลปะที่ผสมผสานการสำรวจและการศึกษาในเชิงจิตวิทยาถึงสภาวะอารมณ์และจิตใจของมนุษย์

งานแสดงในครั้งนี้เป็นการพัฒนาและต่อยอดจากแนวคิดเรื่อง teleportation (การวาร์ปผ่านหลุมดำไปสู่อีกมิติ) ของศิลปิน โดยในนิทรรศการนี้ ก้องกาน ได้ทำการวาร์ปเข้าไปสำรวจสภาวะจิตใจและความทรงจำในส่วนลึกของตนเอง เพื่อสร้างความเข้าใจ ความสุขและความพึงพอใจในตัวเองอย่างแท้จริง ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นถึงความมุ่งมั่นตั้งใจในการเตรียมจิตใจให้เข้มแข็งและพร้อมที่จะเผชิญหน้ากับโอกาสและความท้าทายใหม่ ๆ

Keep in the Dark is a collection of the artist’s various encounters with people and stories of people who have different political opinions, culminating in the current political malaise. The paintings, portraying the affected people’s faces and records of significant political moments in modern Thai history as seen from media, reflect various stories straightforwardly. Ultimately, this exhibition aims to encourage dialogues between diverse opinions on the current situation.

Exhibition: The Message is the Message by Cameron Platter

The exhibition concentrates on the theme of trash, embracing the complexity of all the different meanings the word “trash” embodies. With his typical approach Platter elaborates, in his unique way, the enormous amount of information available today. Placing on the same level high and low culture, he treats subjects sourced from disparate elements.

While in this project the works touch themes connected to ecological aspects, like: environmental degradation, mutations and toxicity, “trash” also indicates the aberration of our society. It is the artist most objective report of the contemporaneity with few sharp and dark hints at our future.

Trash is metaphor for our society’s debris, it is the garbage of the conformist common sense, the symbol of excess and over-consumption. The show expresses condemnation of the fast-food, fast-money, fake-news, greed and crumbling late-stage capitalism culture.

นิทรรศการสื่อความหมายอันซับซ้อนของคำว่า ‘ขยะ’ ศิลปินใช้วิธีการสื่อสารที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว แจกแจงข้อมูลมหาศาลด้านปัญหาขยะผ่านงานศิลปะ งานของคาเมรอน แพลตเตอร์ผนวกวัฒนธรรม ชั้นสูงและวัฒนธรรมสมัยนิยมอย่างไม่มีเส้นแบ่ง ศิลปินวิพากษ์ปัญหาขยะจากสาเหตุนานาประการที่มี ความแตกต่างกันอย่างสิ้นเชิง

ผลงานในนิทรรศการนี้ พูดถึง ‘ขยะ’ ในมุมมองกว้างครอบคลุมระบบนิเวศ อาทิ การเสื่อมโทรมของ สิ่งแวดล้อม การกลายพันธุ์ และมลพิษ นอกจากนั้น ‘ขยะ’ ยังแสดงถึงความวิปลาสของสังคม ซึ่งแพลตเตอร์สะท้อนภาพปัจจุบัน และทำนายอนาคตไปพร้อม ๆ กัน

‘ขยะ’ เปรียบเสมือนซากปรักหักพังของสังคม ‘ขยะ’ เป็นผลผลิตของสัญชาตญาณความเคยชิน ‘ขยะ’ เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการบริโภคเกินจำเป็น การใช้แล้วทิ้งอย่างสุดโต่ง นิทรรศการประณามอาหารจานด่วน เงินด่วน ข่าวปลอม ความต้องการที่ไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด รวมทั้งการเริ่มล่มสลายของวัฒนธรรมทุนนิยม

Over the past 18 years, 100 Tonson Gallery has been a forefront contemporary art gallery in Thailand and Asia. The gallery has mounted over 100 exhibitions and programs of both local and international artists. Since 2015 we have supported artists and curators in their ambitious experimentations and through long-term programming, while generating greater cultural exposure to the public at large.

In 2020, 100 Tonson Gallery officially transitioned into a non-profit organization under the name 100 Tonson Foundation. All profits and donations directly support the production of exhibition and new commissions while allowing us to keep our diverse public programs free for visitors.

100 Tonson Foundation aims to further elevate the stature of Thai contemporary art internationally, as well as to support the progress of the local art community. The foundation provides opportunity for artists to exhibit across all art disciplines at its unique Christian Liaigre designed space in the heart of Bangkok. The scope of the foundation’s support stretches beyond these white-cube walls. The foundation establishes relationships and collaborations with renowned international museums and art institutions.

ตลอดระยะ 18 ปี ภายใต้ชื่อ 100 ต้นสนแกลเลอรี่ (100 Tonson Gallery) หนึ่งในหอศิลป์ชั้นนำในประเทศไทยและใน เอเชีย เราได้นำเสนอผลงานของศิลปินไทยและนานาชาติมาแล้วกว่า 100 นิทรรศการ ทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศ ในช่วงเวลา 6 ปีที่ผ่านมา 100 ต้นสน ได้มองเห็นโอกาสในการสนับสนุนโครงการศิลปะ ทั้งในรูปแบบใหม่และการนำศิลปะเข้าไปมีส่วนร่วมกับ ชุมชน จึงได้ปรับเปลี่ยนรูปแบบการแสดงผลงานนิทรรศการหมุนเวียนทุกๆ 2 เดือน มาเป็นการยกพื้นที่แสดงงานแห่งนี้ให้กับศิลปิน ที่ได้รับเชิญมาใช้พื้นที่เพื่อวางแผนการทำงานศิลปะที่ท้าทายมากขึ้น ให้ศิลปินได้ทดลอง ฝึกฝน และวางแผนนิทรรศการในรูปแบบ ใหม่ๆ ด้วยระยะเวลาแสดงผลงาน 6 เดือน ซึ่งทุกโครงการที่ผ่านมาได้รับเสียงตอบรับที่ดีและประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมาก

ในปี พ.ศ. 2563 100 ต้นสนแกลเลอรี่ (100 Tonson Gallery) ได้ปรับโครงสร้างมาเป็นองค์กรที่ไม่แสวงหากำไร อย่างเป็นทางการ เป็น มูลนิธิ 100 ต้นสน (100 Tonson Foundation) โดยรายได้ทั้งหมดจะถูกนำไปสนับสนุนโครงการทาง ศิลปะร่วมสมัยที่จัดขึ้นโดยมูลนิธิฯ (ตามความตั้งใจดั้งเดิมของผู้ก่อตั้ง) มูลนิธิ 100 ต้นสน ยังคงมีความมุ่งมั่นและตั้งใจที่จะยกระดับศิลปะร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทยไปสู่เวทีในระดับนานาชาติ โดยเปิดโอกาสให้ศิลปินได้แสดงผลงานโดยไม่จำกัดแขนง ในพื้นที่ใจกลางกรุงเทพฯ ที่ถูกออกแบบโดย Christian Liagre สถาปนิกชื่อดังชาวฝรั่งเศส และความตั้งใจของมูลนิธิฯ ไม่ได้หยุดอยู่แค่ห้องแสดงผลงานเท่านั้น ทางมูลนิธิฯ ยังตั้งมั่นที่จะสร้างเครือข่ายกับพิพิธภัณฑ์ และสถาบันศิลปะนานาชาติ เพื่อความเป็นไปได้ในอนาคตที่จะสนับสนุนพัฒนาการของวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัยไทยอย่างต่อเนื่อง

The first installment of A Minor History exhibition results from Apichatpong’s journey along the Mekong River during Thailand’s recent pandemic lockdowns. He accumulated interviews and photographs that reflect the country’s shifting political climate.

The three-channel video installation focuses on two encounters, beginning with a Mukdahan local who recovered the wrapped bodies of political activists found in the river, and followed by the discovery of an old cinema theatre in Kalasin province. The skeletal remains of the cinema, infested with pigeons, are juxtaposed with images of the nocturnal flow of the Mekong.

Apichatpong collaborates for the first time with a young Isan poet, Mek Krung Fah (the half-cloudy sky). The poet composes a fictional story and impersonates a man and his lover as they stroll along the riverbank. The narration mimics an old cinema and radio drama dubbing style from a bygone era.

นิทรรศการภาคแรก เกิดจากการเดินทางเลียบแม่น้ำโขงในช่วงระหว่างการล็อกดาวน์ อภิชาติพงศ์ได้รวบรวมบทสัมภาษณ์ ภาพถ่าย และมุมมองต่าง ๆ ทางการเมืองที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปของคนในพื้นที่ เขาได้แรงบันดาลใจจากการได้พบกับชายชาวมุกดาหารผู้ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในทีมกู้ศพที่ลอยมาตามลำน้ำโขง และการได้ค้นพบโรงภาพยนตร์เก่าแห่งหนึ่งที่จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์

ในงานวิดีโอจัดวาง ภาพโรงภาพยนตร์เก่าที่เหลือแต่โครงผุพังเหมือนซากโครงกระดูกซึ่งปัจจุบันกลายเป็นที่อาศัยของนกพิราบนับร้อยตัว ถูกนำเสนอเทียบเคียงกับภาพลำน้ำโขงยามค่ำคืน และเป็นครั้งแรกที่อภิชาติพงศ์ได้สร้างงานกับ เมฆ’ครึ่งฟ้า กวีรุ่นใหม่ชาวอีสาน ซึ่งได้แต่งเรื่องและพากย์เสียงด้วยตัวเอง โดยใช้เทคนิคการพากย์เลียนแบบภาพยนตร์และละครวิทยุในอดีต

In the spirit of a film noir resembling a ghost town, Tragédie Paradisio shows a daily life suspended in times of pandemic, on an island in the Gulf of Thailand, living mainly from tourism.

Deserted roads, abandoned shops, fishermen village are so many vestiges of a bygone era which reflects a sluggish economy and an uncertain future.

“The true paradises are the paradises that we have lost” Marcel Proust, In Search of Lost Time.

In this series, Jules Viera deals with different subjects, situations, old and new habits, and feelings that we have all globally experienced since the beginning of Covid 19 crisis. He tries to transcribe what inspires him since January 2020 trough our emotions and the World’s mutations. As an experimental logbook of this pandemic, “Current and future world” witness our present and questions our future.

Art4C is a gallery and creative learning space, housed in a three-storey in Samyan district, right in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. It was founded and funded by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. This space promotes trans-disciplinary art, learning and cultural activities. A café serving fusion food is located on the ground floor. Exhibitions are held on the second floor gallery and performances, workshops, talks, therapy and learning activities are held on the third floor.

An exhibition shows the story of the artist’s memories and the experiences of those who lived in the Samyan community, Bangkok, Thailand. Through the perspective of Porramet Jittaksa, the exhibition explores the narrative of growing up in a rapidly growing space and being shaped by the diversity of communities. Through this story, artists share their experiences through the creation of video art and installation art.

This exhibition presents an expansive visual and biographical examination into the works of Assistant Professor Damrong Wong-Uparaj (1936-2002), awarded 1999’s National Artist title in the painting category and whose multi-disciplinary abilities were self-nurtured by his own determination to learn and explore. His career spanned over 40 years, each of which was spent dedicated to the development and progress of Thai Art. Aside from his main role as an artist, Damrong was also a teaching and lecturing professor, a writer, a curator, a director for art centres and an art conservator, all of which contributed to introducing “Visual Arts” to the general public in Thailand.

นิทรรศการนำเสนอตัวตนของผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ดำรง วงศ์อุปราช (พ.ศ. 2479 – 2545) ศิลปินแห่งชาติสาขาทัศนศิลป์ (จิตรกรรม) ประจำปีพุทธศักราช 2542 ผ่านแง่มุมของความสามารถอันรอบด้าน ซึ่งมีที่มาจากความกล้าคิดและกล้าทดลองจนกระทั่งค้นพบแนวทางเฉพาะตัว ควบคู่ไปกับความทุ่มเทตลอดระยะเวลามากกว่า 40 ปีเพื่อขับเคลื่อนวงการศิลปะของประเทศไทยทั้งในฐานะศิลปิน อาจารย์ นักเขียน นักวิชาการด้านศิลปะ ภัณฑารักษ์ ผู้บริหารจัดการหอศิลป์ และนักอนุรักษ์ศิลปะ เพื่อถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ด้าน “ทัศนศิลป์” สู่สาธารณชนวงกว้าง

From the bottom of his heart Nature artist Rungsrit Kanjanavanit aka ‘Dr Mong’, who over 36 years filled 15 notebooks with these exquisite ink and watercolour sketches, wants us to know that we cannot live without beauty, and that every threat against natural beauty and balance is a threat against life itself. Our very survival, as well as our reason to live, depends on the preservation of beauty in this world.

Manycuts Artspace was founded in 2017 with the purpose to provide an art space in Chachoengsao province. It was collaboratively founded by those who love arts, scholars, students, and artists in order to show temporary exhibitions by both artists in Chachoengsao and contemporary artists from other places as well as to be a space for exchanging opinions on social, local, and art and culture issues. In 2021, Manycuts Artspace opens another space in Ari area located in the middle of Bangkok. It still aims at driving contemporary art by continuing to push and present highly qualified exhibition.

PRICELESS is a result of a long process of Surajate Thongchua which he commenced in May 2014. Then it took another seven years to complete and became this exhibition PRICELESS presented at Manycuts Artspace I Ari. The milestone where this set of artworks departed returns back to the date when the latest coup d’état was staged in Thailand that year.

Not only does PRICELESS exhibition presents economic evaluation mathematically, but it also refers to lives, opportunities, rights, and freedoms that are deprived from Thai people since the junta’s regime started in 2014. Surajate connects his personal experiences to Thai politics and social context in order to portray the perspectives of a Thai citizen. At the same time, such personal experiences are contextually weaved into collective experiences through which everyone shares during the passing seven years.

This body of works emerged from preservation, collection, distribution, assembling, storytelling, and revaluing uneconomic value. On the day of the coup in Thailand, Surajate began to preserve and collect receipts of his personal and family’s daily expenses. The receipts witnessing those expenses were transformed by a shredder; they were transformed into pieces of paper. The values either high or low that were once recorded into paper are all deconstructed and destroyed completely. This exhibition features two bodies of the artist’s work, the work on canvas and sculpture made of pieces of primary school textbook papers and Chinese newspapers.

When viewing artworks, audiences could have seen abstract artworks, or else they could have seen the mechanism of the huge amount of values as a part of economic mechanism. Not only do Surajate’s artworks invite audiences to think about economic values to which we and our country loosed along with democracy during such period of times, but also invite us to retrospect our derived costs, values, opportunities, rights and freedoms, and lives that are incalculable by any economic index.

นิทรรศการ Pricelses l ที่ประเมินค่าไม่ได้ คือผลงานที่เกิดจากกระบวนการทำงานอันยาวนานของ สุรเจต ทองเจือ ผลงานชุดนี้ถูกเริ่มต้นกระบวนการในช่วงเดือนพฤศภาคม พ.ศ. 2557 เเละใช้เวลากว่า 7 ปีจนเสร็จสิ้น และนำมาสู่นิทรรศการ Priceless l ที่ประเมินค่าไม่ได้ ที่จัดแสดงที่ Manycuts Artspace l Ari หมุดหมายสำคัญที่เป็นต้นกำเนิดผลงานงานชุดนี้ย้อนกลับไปในวันที่ประเทศไทยเกิดการรัฐประหารครั้งล่าสุดในปีดังกล่าว

นิทรรศการ Priceless l ที่ประเมินค่าไม่ได้ ไม่เพียงพูดถึงการประเมินค่าทางตัวเลขทางเศรษฐกิจ แต่หมายถึงชีวิต โอกาส สิทธิและเสรีภาพที่ถูกลิดรอน ที่ประชาชนไทยถูกพรากจากจากไปนับตั้งแต่วันที่ประเทศตกอยู่ภายใต้การรัฐประหารในปี พ.ศ. 2557 สุรเจตเชื่อมโยงประสบการณ์ส่วนตัว กับสถานการณ์ทางการเมืองไทย และบริบทเชิงสังคม เพื่อนำเสนอมุมมองของประชาชนคนหนึ่งในฐานะพลเมืองไทย ในขณะเดียวกัน ประสบการณ์เหล่านั้นถูกร้อยเรียงทางบริบทเป็นประสบการณ์ร่วมกับช่วงเวลากว่า 7 ปี ที่เราทุกคนต่างมีร่วมกัน

ผลงานของสุรเจตชุดนี้เกิดจากจากกระบวนการระหว่างการเก็บ การสะ-สม การระบาย การปะ-ติด และสร้างเรื่องราว การบอกเล่า และสร้างมูลค่าที่ไม่ใช่มูลค่าทางเศรษฐกิจขึ้นมาใหม่ ในวันที่ประเทศไทยถูกรัฐประหาร สุรเจตเริ่มเก็บ รวบรวม สะสมใบเสร็จค่าใช้จ่ายที่ถูกใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันของตัวเองและครอบครัว ใบเสร็จหลักฐานค่าใช้จ่ายเหล่านั้น ถูกนำมาแปรสภาพผ่านเครื่องย่อยทำลายเอกสาร หลักฐานบันทึกมูลค่าทางตัวเลขเหล่านั้นถูกแปรสภาพเป็นเพียงเศษกระดาษ มูลค่าที่ไม่ว่าจะสูงหรือต่ำที่เคยถูกบันทึกลงบนกระดาษเหล่านั้น ล้วนถูกลบและถูกทำลายลงไปจนสิ้น ผลงานทั้งหมดในชุดนี้ของสุรเจตเกิดจากการนำเศษกระดาษเหล่านั้นมาปะติด ซ้อนทับลงบนผืนผ้าใบ และงานประติมากรรมที่ทำจากกระดาษหนังสือแบบเรียนเด็กประถม และเศษหนังสือพิมพ์ภาษาจีน

เมื่อผู้ชมมองผลงานที่อยู่ตรงหน้า ผู้ชมอาจเห็นเพียงสิ่งที่ดูเหมือนผลงานนามธรรม หรือผู้ชมอาจเห็นกลไกมูลค่ามหาศาลที่ล้วนเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในกลไลทางเศรษฐกิจ ผลงานของสุรเจตไม่เพียงชวนผู้ชมให้คิดถึงมูลค่าทางเศรษฐกิจที่เรา และประเทศชาติสูญเสียไปพร้อมกับความเป็นประชาธิปไตยในห้วงเวลาดังกล่าว แต่ยังคงเชิญชวนให้เราย้อนกลับไปพิจารณาถึงมูลค่า คุณค่า โอกาส สิทธิและเสรีภาพ ชีวิต ที่ไม่อาจถูกประเมินค่าด้วยดัชนีตัวเลขทางเศรษฐกิจที่เราทุกคนต้องสูญเสียไป

At the end of 2021, Nova Contemporary dedicates exclusively to the solo exhibition of Arin Rungjang. Oblivion, a site-specific exhibition, brings together the video, installation, and paintings to physicalise the metaphysical existence of being and the state of nothingness and its relations to the inherent desire and freedom. Arin Rungjang orchestrates Oblivion in making of a multi-sensory discourse in the gallery space to ignite the non-optical senses. He deploys the radical subjectivities, deliberates the nothingness, and sublimates the narratives. Through the memories of King Rama VI, the uncle miner, and himself, Arin Rungjang creates the space of becoming, reflecting the universality of the human’s emotions, regardless of the social identities, a situation of the encounter of equals.

INSIDE the exhibition under the Young at Art project, Numthong Art Space wants to support and contribute to the art education community by providing the art space for an emerging artist. This will help develop their skill in areas such as exhibition management, coordinating, or advertising.

The exhibition ‘INSIDE’ consists of six art students from Silpakorn University that study in the faculty of Painting Sculpturing and Graphic art. These are art students who want to express their perspective from the ‘inside’ and reflect their emotions within their minds that were aroused and impacted their thinking process. This leads them to analyze and discover answers to build an idea for creating their individual art style.

นิทรรศการ INSIDE เป็นนิทรรศการภายใต้โครงการ Young at Art ซึ่งเป็นความตั้งใจของนำทองอาร์ตสเปซที่จะเปิดโอกาสและสนับสนุนพื้นที่ทางศิลปะให้แก่ศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ที่มีใจรักในเส้นทางสายนี้ เพื่อให้ได้มีโอกาสศึกษาเรียนรู้ และพัฒนาทักษะทางด้านการจัดแสดงงาน การประสานติดต่อกับหน่วยงาน รวมไปถึงการเผยแพร่ผลงานสู่สาธารณะ

นิทรรศการ INSIDE นี้เองเกิดจากการรวมกลุ่มของนักศึกษาศิลปะ คณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร จำนวน 6 คน ที่ต้องการถ่ายทอดมุมมองต่าง ๆ จาก ‘ภายใน’ ของตน สะท้อนอารมณ์ความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจซึ่งเกิดจากการโดนกระทบรบเร้ากระบวนการคิด เกิดการตั้งคำถาม วิเคราะห์ เเละหาคำตอบเพื่อต่อยอด และแตกขยายความคิดผ่านกระบวนสร้างสรรค์ด้วยเทคนิคเฉพาะตัวของศิลปิน

The essence of the tropical lifestyle is encapsulated in the simplest of terms, a naïve palm that repeats throughout her work. Also abstracted brilliantly are the illusion of naked forms in her work, the liberty of rest and relaxation at the forefront of the dream she has created.

FREEDOM FROM THIRST, originally conceived as a pavilion for the 2nd Bangkok Biennale, opens up ambivalent spaces between the commercial and the spiritual.

The slogan «Freedom from Thirst» is borrowed from a Sprite advertising campaign from the early 2000s and is subliminally evocative of Eastern discourses about detachment from desires.

On the 13th of November the exhibition starts out with an installation including a nomadic pavilion structure which later in the month will be activated by an eclectic performance program in the gallery space and various outdoor locations in Bangkok.

FREEDOM FROM THIRST เป็นงานที่จัดขึ้นเพื่อแสดงในงาน Bangkok Biennale ครั้งที่ 2 เปิดพื้นที่ที่สับสนระหว่างธุรกิจการค้ากับจิตวิญญาณ

สโลแกน «Freedom from Thirst» ยืมมาจากแคมเปญโฆษณา Sprite ตั้งแต่ช่วงต้นทศวรรษ 2000 และชวนให้นึกถึงวาทกรรมของชาวตะวันออกเกี่ยวกับการแยกตัวออกจากความปรารถนา

Future Tense is the first exhibition to coincide with the celebration of the new building of the Jim Thompson Art Center (JTAC) at the end of this year. In other words, Future Tense is an exhibition that aims to show the standpoint of JTAC and the new approaches that stem from our vision as a vibrant and inclusive arts organization. For the new chapter of JTAC, we are committed to fostering all kind of artistic activities and creating mutual space for contemporary art experiences to serve today’s social context. In particular, the inaugural show will be presented in salon-style hang that accommodates diverse artworks under the theme of the Cold War context in Southeast Asia and beyond as well as critical issues of our fast-changing and disrupted local and global realities, especially this challenging time.

This program engages people in sharing and exchanging knowledge, co-authoring projects, and creating ‘alter- communities’ in the spirit of organizing art initiatives for a better living together. Through a series of workshops, conferences, artist presentations (onsite/online), and publications, the community art workshop invites participants to develop their proposals for soft social improvement within their local contexts. The suggestions of how to improve urban surroundings, institutions, or communities can, in turn, generate new ideas as well as new synergies for social change that can be developed more efficiently from the perspective of a community.

โปรแกรมนี้เชิญชวนผู้คนในการแบ่งปันและแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ ร่วมเขียนโครงการ และสร้าง ‘ชุมชนที่เปลี่ยนแปลงได้’ ด้วยจิตวิญญาณของการจัดระเบียบความคิดริเริ่มด้านศิลปะเพื่อการอยู่ร่วมกันที่ดีขึ้น เวิร์คช็อปศิลปะกับชุมชนจะชี้ชวนให้ผู้เข้าร่วมได้พัฒนาความคิดสำหรับการปรับปรุงสังคมภายในบริบทของท้องถิ่นผ่านกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ตั้งแต่การทำเวิร์คช็อป การนำเสนอของศิลปิน (ทั้งในสถานที่และออนไลน์) และสิ่งพิมพ์ต่าง ๆ ทำให้เกิดข้อเสนอแนะเพื่อการปรับปรุงสภาพแวดล้อมในเมือง สถาบัน หรือชุมชน อีกทั้งยังสามารถสร้างแนวคิดใหม่ ๆ รวมถึงการผนึกกำลังใหม่ ๆ เพื่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมที่สามารถพัฒนาได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้นจากมุมมองของชุมชนอย่างแท้จริง

In this exhibition, Baphoboy explores Thai manliness by reflecting in the form of installation art on his experience as a conscripted soldier in a military camp where the dictatorship systematically dehumanizes conscripts through hazings and other humiliations, and seeks to drastically stamp out any deviation from the gender norm. Similarly, the work of Anuwat Apimukmongkon urges us to question whether Thai Buddhist piety is compatible with gender diversity by focusing on the subjet of ordination in 14 watercolour and oil paintings.

นิทรรศการ THAI MEN, Baphoboy ใช้สื่องานศิลปะจัดวางจะพาเราไปสำรวจความเป็นลูกผู้ชายแบบไทยๆ ผ่านผลงานที่สะท้อนประสบการณ์อาสารับใช้ชาติในค่ายทหารของเขา ที่เผด็จการของการเป็นชายชาติทหารกำลังลดทอนความเป็นมนุษย์และเสรีภาพทางเพศของชายเหล่านั้นด้วยค่านิยมเก่าๆ และผลงานของ อนุวัฒน์ อภิมุขมงคล ที่จะนำเราไปสู่การตั้งคำถามต่อการบวช ในฐานะของพุทธศาสนิกชนและผู้ที่มีความหลากหลายทางเพศ ว่าการไม่เต็มใจบวชหรือการบวชในเพศสภาวะที่แตกต่างหลากหลายนั้น ไม่มีความเป็นลูกผู้ชายและเป็นความผิดบาปหรือ? ผ่านภาพวาดสีน้ำและสีน้ำมัน 14 ชิ้น
